Welcome to the Victorian Guest House, bed and breakfast in northern Indiana, where you will discover gracious living with the ambiance of the 1800s. Located in the heart of Amish country in Indiana, the Victorian Guest House stands out like a polished gemstone. This gabled and turreted 110-year-old mansion, two blocks from Nappanee's historic town square, stands resplendent in its Victorian charm. The home, filled with antiques and original family pieces, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This 1887 Queen Anne-style masterpiece was built for the Frank Coppes family. Coppes, whose company manufactured free-standing kitchen cabinets, insisted on expert craftsmanship, down to every exquisite detail: extensive wood paneling, stained glass windows, brass hardware.
The etched-glass entryway leads through beveled-glass pocket doors into an expansive living room with polished hardwood floors and tall ceilings. Graceful Victorian upholstered chairs and tufted footstools are present here. A wide draped doorway opens to the dining room where period wallpaper softens rich wood paneling and the beamed ceiling. The massive 11-foot dining room table, with a servant buzzer hidden on the underside, is an original piece. Stained glass windows made by Nappanee's renowned Lamb Brothers, whose work rivals that of Louis B. Tiffany, line the dining room and the quarter-sawn golden oak staircase that leads to the bedrooms upstairs.
Nappanee and neighboring towns Shipshewana, and Middlebury boast some of Indiana's best antique shopping. Popular venues include Amish acres in Nappanee and the flea market in Shipshewana. Lake Wawasee, Indiana's largest natural lake, is conveniently located fifteen minutes away.
