You may also want to stop by the Yulee Sugar Mill Historic Site or the Olde Mill House Gallery and Printing Museum on your way to the quaint Yulee cafe for a bite of lunch. Then why not try snorkeling, take out one of our complementary canoes, or rent our brand new pontoon boat for 1/2 or full day on the beautiful Homosassa river to see the monkeys on Monkey Island pictured below. Gulf Coast Charters can take you on a scalloping trip, tarpon fishing or dolphin watching.
You could also swim with the manatees or go canoeing to the Crystal River to view the native birdsand wildlife. A short drive or boat ride to Ozello brings you to the Wenches Brew for a great dinner of local seafood. Be sure to save room for their delicious Key Lime Pie.
After dinner take a leisurely drive out to Fort Island Beach to watch the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico. Travel south down old highway 19 to the world famous Weeki Wachee Springs where you can see live mermaids at play. After an exciting day at the Weeki Wachee Wild Water Park try the Souvlaki or a delicious Greek salad at Helles' Restaurant then go for a romantic stroll along the festive sponge docks in Tarpon Springs.
Citrus and Marion counties offer a great variety of state and national parks to explore including; Withlacoochee State Forest and Trail, Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Reserve, Lake Rousseau State Recreation Area, Rainbow Springs State Park, Fort Cooper State Park, Historic Dade Battle Field, Endangered Animal Rescue Sanctuary, Crystal River State Archaeological Site and St. Martin's Preserve. Just north of old Homosassa you will discover some great places too.
Enjoy a pleasant walk through sleepy Yankeetown, rustic Cedar Key or travel on to Gainesville to explore the Butterfly Rainforest at the Museum of Natural History located on the University of Florida campus. Go Gators!
