This beautiful Greek Revival home was built in 1840 with great attention to architectural detail including stately columns, high ceilings, carved moldings and imported German silver hardware on the doors and windows. Come and enjoy the cherry wood circular stairway, the many marble fireplaces, the handsome library, the spacious twin parlors and cozy conversation area on the second floor landing. Begin your morning with a sumptuous, full breakfast featuring fresh baked goods and Maine produce and products prepared and served by your hosts. On cool evenings and mornings a crackling fire will greet you in one or more of our marble fireplaces. Belfast View our magnificent sunrises and sunsets just steps away from the inn on gorgeous, glistening, Penobscot Bay! USA Today has rated Belfast as one of the country's top five "culturally cool" small towns. Belfast is located in mid-coast Maine overlooking Penobscot Bay far from the madding crowds of Camden and Bar Harbor, but perfectly situated between the two for day trips. The town has changed from its earlier shipbuilding and industrial identity into a cultural mecca. In historic brick buildings you will find art galleries, antique shops, book stores and restaurants. The area offers year-round theatre, state parks, a train excursion, bay cruises, golf, skiing, nearby sand beaches, and more! The Alden House is located in the heart of the historic district along with many homes which were built before the Civil War. The Belfast Historic Walking Tour invites you to saunter a mile amid these splendid period homes. Within minutes you can walk to the heart of downtown Belfast or to the waterfront dotted with sailboats and lobster boats. Come and experience an affordable, authentic, New England coastal community! The Alden House was completely restored in 1997 and the process continues today. The Inn consists of seven beautiful bedrooms, five with private baths and two with shared bath. The Inn is antique appointed with ornate beds, new firm mattresses topped with feather bed mattresses and lavender scented sheets. Spacious twin parlors, a library and a cozy conservation area on the second floor are for guest use. The ambiance is serene and comfortable. Join us for a stroll through the Inn. The entrance is graced by a staircase with a hand-carved, cherry newel post, bannister and rail. The original wood floors are beautifully maintained and lead into two formal parlors on either side of the entrance. The North Parlor holds a turn of the previous century, grand, player piano as beautiful to see as it is to hear. A working fireplace of white marble adds to the beauty of the room. The South Parlor has beautiful bay windows, a working fireplace with a black marble mantle and lovely antique furniture. The circular walking pattern of the first floor leads next into the Library , a handsome antique appointed room with floor-to-ceiling, built-in, oak bookcases and another working fireplace framed in marble. Continuing through the Library one enters the Dining Room , where guests are treated to a sumptuous gourmet breakfast featuring fresh, local, seasonal ingredients!
