The Sword & Anchor, claims a place of prominence from its hilltop site at the head of the harbour, in the coastal community of Chester Basin. Over the years this grand place has been sanctuary for seafarers, travelers, gold miners and families. Guests to the Sword & Anchor are offered not only a personal glimpse of the colorful history but also a spectacular view of the waters of Mahone Bay.
The Inn was originally known as The Boylan Hotel, and built in 1882 by Levi Oxner, a Sea Captain. For almost one hundred and twenty five years, the Sword & Anchor, as it is now known, has stood a loyal beacon and a welcoming resting place along the South Shore.
Though it has seen several alterations since 1882, the Sword & Anchor has weathered the test of time and change, proudly bearing the South Shore's friendly character and tradition throughout the years.
We are pleased to offer 8 guestrooms with private bath ensuite, a family suite, and a delightful Guest house, this elegant waterfront property offers all the charm and intimacy of a Country Inn.
