The Standifer House was built in the early 1900s on land that was acquired in the much storied "Oklahoma Land Race". The home belonged to Etta Music, a nurse, in 1927 when it was revamped and expanded to become the Music Hospital. In the 1940’s it served as a boarding house until after World War II. Sometime after this, it become a nursing home and then later, a home for the mentally challenged. In 1996 the wonderful old Victorian building, by then abandoned and forsaken, was bought by two sisters and their husbands with the loving mission of preserving this slice of Americana in Elk City, Oklahoma on Historic Route 66. At the end of 1999 the Smiths and Worleys began work on the renovation, which consisted of turning a Victorian hospital with 8000 square feet and 40 plus rooms into a 10 suite elegant Bed & Breakfast. On June 8th 2002, we had our grand opening! And what a grand opening it was; over 1000 people joined us, including local dignitaries and state legislators. Come join us and explore Americana on "The Mother Highway", historic Route 66.
