With its spectacular panoramic views, the ROSEBUD RUBY STAR is a peaceful and delight-filled place to experience all that this high desert wonderland has to offer.
The B&B is surrounded by desert foliage and creatures of all descriptions. You will be advised to stay away from the “jumping” cholla cactus and encouraged to enjoy the music of coyotes and to observe quail families, lizards, jackrabbits, tortoises and other desert creatures. Perhaps you'll choose to sit down by the corral and talk to the horse and mules after whom the ROSEBUD RUBY STAR is fondly named. Visit the “Pollo Palace” where the ranch hens lay for your breakfast.
Depending on when you are here, spend your evening gazing at the brilliant starry sky or bathe in the intense desert moonlight that turns night to day. You may want to soak in your own “desert cowboy spa” with large spa towels provided, or perhaps just curl up in the hammock and dream of other worlds. The weather in the high desert is cooler than in Palm Springs, only 40 miles away in the low desert. Fall is delightful with warm days and cool evenings. Winter is a wonderful time to do outdoor activities that might be too strenuous for very warm days. The spring season is glorious with the desert abloom. And... the sun is almost always shining.
Hiking, rock climbing and horseback riding are extraordinary experiences in this rock-strewn, mountainous desertland. We can offer suggestions about the most interesting places to visit inside and outside of the park, including a magnificent orchid farm, Pioneertown that was built by Roy Rogers and Gene Autry for making those old time westerns, a wonderful artist's outdoor sculpture studio, a real live drive-in movie, unique area shops and antique stores.
If you would enjoy an amazing desert massage or spa treatment, that too can be arranged. Sound baths are available at the “world famous” Integratron.
We are happy to recommend a selection of local restaurants, as well as direct you to the local music scene.
The two bed and breakfast rooms (“Rosebud” and “Ruby Star”) each have outdoor entries from the covered patio. The rooms have their own baths, queen-sized beds and have been uniquely hand embellished and decorated by the artist/owner to create a relaxed but sophisticated desert experience for guests. Each room also has a private sitting room with a CD player and books and magazines. Bask in the glow of the fire in your patio chiminea.
Gourmet breakfast is served to your patio table (weather permitting) or in the art-filled great room of the main residence. Your meal will be as delicious to the eye as it is to your palate. Freshly baked homemade cookies will be brought to your room in the late afternoon. Please let us know if you have unique dietary concerns. Coffee, tea and other amenities are always available on the patio.
You will be able to tour the Ruby Star Studio which will be producing unique items for sale. Inquire about our feltmaking classes.
The ROSEBUD RUBY STAR is evaporatively cooled in warm months and each room has a ceiling fan and a heat source. There are no televisions or phones in the rooms, however you can request use of the residence phone or modem. The rooms are nonsmoking.
