Chamcook Forest Lodge Bed & Breakfast
4665 Hwy 127 St. Andrews By-The-Sea
Chamcook, New Brunswick

Our large Victorian styled home, part of a retired maritime farm, is located on a quiet old growth sugar maple - yellow birch forested ridge at the base of Chamcook mountain beside St. Andrews-by-the-Sea. The cool breezes flowing off the colder seawater during the summer have long attracted guests escaping the heat of inland Canadian & American cities. Families with children are most welcome. This B&B has been in operation since 1990 by Don & Jenny Menton and is the longest same owner operated B&B in the St. Andrews region. Built between 1884 and 1901, Forest Lodge as it was previously known, was a popular heritage resort for many visitors coming to St. Andrews initially by the railway along the abandoned line below the property (now parts of which are a hiking trail). Early guests often came for the whole summer. Recent renovations have created all private bathrooms replacing the large central one early guests shared. The house is located on an 80 acre property facing a spectacular view of Chamcook harbour, Ministers Island (right of the channel) and Passamaquoddy Bay (beyond). The surrounding forest is one of the very few highway bordering old growths surviving in southern New Brunswick. No large scale cutting has occurred on the property for at least 130 years and maybe even longer. The lower slopes are clothed with hard (sugar) maples - yellow & white birch - beech - butternuts (rare in this region), white cedar and ash, and the upper slopes are dominated with mostly large red spruce. A transition between the two forest types is evident as one ascends the slope.

Other Amenities Details
Our amenities include large comfortable bed rooms, central air conditioning and forced air heating, rich dark hardwood Chip'n'Dale style frunishings imported from Brazil and Bolivia, all private bathrooms, smoking outside, telephone in central area (free long distance calls within Canada between 18:00-08:00), television with VCR or DVD in some rooms - very quiet place to sleep - children welcome. The host's living and social quarters are separate from the guests. All household pets live only in the host quarters to ensure comfort of allergy sensitivities. For guests seeking individual beds, or older couples having difficulties with stairs, the ground floor Piano Room has twin beds and an adjoining shower stall bathroom. On the second floor, we have 3 rooms each with a 4 piece private bathroom. The "Couple's Get-away Retreat" or Ocean View room is for couples seeking a beautiful eastward view, comfort of an air-tub and solitude. The family or Hillside View room has recently been created by merging two smaller bedrooms into one to create both a spacious private bathroom and a bedroom (total 380 sq. ft) with sufficient space for a family with children to accommodate comfortably. The Old Farm View room has a large, old style bay window looking out onto the retired farm buildings to the south. Most of the furniture is rich dark hardwood in the Chip'n'Dale style imported from Brazil and a few from Bolivia. Paintings are mostly originals from Brazil, Bolivia, Canada, Australia and China, collected while working overseas. The floors are all narrow board hardwood maple, with very few throw rugs to ensure minimal irritation for allergy suffers.
