Adams Fairview Bonanza Farm History Located in the Red River Valley, the Fairview Farm was founded in 1881 by John Quincy Adams of Wheaton, Illinois. He took advantage of the cheap railroad land and gave it to his son as a wedding present. In 1884, William Phipps Adams came with his new bride to begin the large scale grain farming, on 9,600 acres. Also 10,000 head of sheep were raised on this farm. The farming was done with 200 mules and many men to cultivate and harvest. There were two bunkhouses, one office building, several barns, one measuring 176 ft. by 84 ft. , grain elevator at the end of a railroad spur, foreman's house, etc. What is left of the Fairview Farm buildings is the summer home of the Adamses, a carriage building, well house, horse barn, small granary, a round barn and a small shop. The home, which is now the bed & breakfast, was built in the 1880's and in 1904 it was extensively remodeled to have all the modern facilities such as hot and cold running water, electricity and plenty of space to entertain. It is the goal of the present owners, John and Tuula Kube, to preserve this history and let others know of its importance in how farming got its start here in the Red River Valley.
