The House
The Millstones Bed & Breakfast is an historic residence on the outskirts of Shelburne. In 1785, Alexander Fraser was granted land on the east bank of the Roseway River. Later that same year he sold the property to Gideon White who constructed a canal and Gristmill at the riverÃÂs edge. A fire destroyed the Mill in 1796 leaving only the canal and granite foundations. The original millstones and the foundations are still visible to this day.
In 1853 the Yeoman, John Bower constructed the present house. Close to the old Birchtown highway the house served as a coach stop to passing travellers. In his later years, John recalled often having to sleep in the attic because the house was full of guests.
Continuing in this tradition, The Millstones is a warm and inviting home in which to enjoy your stay and have a full breakfast overlooking the Roseway River or in our dining room. Location
