Generation after generation return to enjoy the serenity, to ramble the secluded woodland trails or paddle the Milford Lakes to picnic on a sandy beach. Milford House is conveniently situated in the village of South Milford, in the heart of the western region of Annapolis County, Nova Scotia ”” famous for its biodiversity, with its many lakes and forests. We are close to historic Annapolis Royal, and the community of Bear River, known as little Switzerland. Travel a little further to Digby, home of world famous scallops and a renowned 18-hole golf course or on to Brier Island for a day of whale watching. Intrepid wilderness enthusiasts can travel to nearby Kejimkujik National Park. We can even prepare you a boxed lunch if you are heading out for a day long adventure. Each of our 27 distinctive rustic cabins has a view and is within walking distance of the main lodge and dining room where telephone and internet service is also available. Don't lift a finger! Cabins are cleaned daily. Wood and kindling is provided for your use. Canoes can be rented on a daily or weekly basis. There is that familiar tingle down the spine and feeling of anticipation when you see the big, white house sitting majestically back from the road β€œ the Canadian and Nova Scotia flags suspended high on either side. The main lodge is built in the style of an 1860s Victorian country farmhouse. The original building was the home and innkeeping business for four generations of the Thomas family. Rebuilt in 2000 following a devastating fire, it was lovingly restored to retain the original ambiance. That great tradition of Nova Scotian hospitality continues as we welcome guests who come for our wonderful home-cooked food in this comfortably rustic setting. Off-season visitors will find a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of hectic shedules. A late Spring or Fall Retreat is just what's needed for your next business meeting. We are pleased to accommodate your group's needs. A small conference/ meeting room sits 25 or our spacious dining room is availale for larger groups. Whale Watching and Golf Discounts for Milford Visitors Milford House, in partnership with Petit Passage Whale Watching and the Annapolis Golf and Country Club, are pleased to offer discounts to our guests who would like the experience of whale watching or for those who enjoy a good game of golf. Whale watching discounts are: 9:30 am and 5:30 pm cruise "two for one". The cost for the 1:30 pm cruise is $99 per family or $35 per adult and $20 per child. Golfing discounts are: $25 daily for 18 holes. Our Thanksgiving Weekend October 6-9th is one of our most popular. The area is ablaze with fall colours, a beautiful canvas for a fall paddle. Complete the experience on those crisp evenings in your lakeside cabin, relaxing by a warming fire. Early bookings are recommended.

The main lodge contains the office and reception area, two comfortable living rooms, a library from which you may borrow books during your stay, a game room for children, and the dining room. All cottages have daily maid service. Firewood and kindling are provided at each cottage. Milford House offers country style cooking at its best. Breakfast and dinner are served daily with options to order picnic lunches for your canoe or hiking day trips. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Attractions and Activities: Berry picking, frog and toad "hunting", flower gathering, nature photography, storytelling, bug collecting, sand castle building, garden snake observing, and trail hiking (Pompy Trail) make up only a partial list of activities for young families. Milford House is at the upper end of the Mersey River watershed. In the spring when water levels are high, it is on a canoe route used by paddlers to cross Nova Scotia from Bear River to Liverpool. There are many canoeing options for both the novice and experienced paddler. The many islands and coves on Geier and Boot lakes provide shelter from prevailing winds and make Milford House quite a safe canoeing environment.
