If you live in the Puget Sound area, you are lucky because it is impossible to explore all the activities that Port Townsend has to offer in a single weekend. It seems like there is a festival or celebration every weekend. If you enjoy hiking, there are several trails along the waterfront in town and nearby Fort Worden State Park offers forest and beach trails. Port Townsend also has two wineries with tasting rooms. Port Townsend is nationally acclaimed Victorian seaport with a historic downtown district and a highly respected community of marine crafts people. Take a stroll by the boats then stop in at Port Townsend's Key City Fish Company , an old-style fish market specializing in fresh, local seafood. Keep in mind that Port Townsend is also a bicycle friendly town featuring bike lanes along many of the major streets. If you are interested in the creatures of the sea, there is the Marine Science Center and Whale watching tours. The PT Guide* offers a very thorough list of all of the activities available to you during your stay at the Castle. Bring your golf clubs along when you visit the Castle. The public Port Townsend Golf Club* is a 100 year old course that the National Golf Foundation recently described as "..both beginner-friendly and challenging for better players. The layout offers some design features not often present at 9-hole municipal golf courses, including tree-framed dog legged holes, severe elevation changes and strategic bunkering." The course is the driest and most affordable course on the Olympic Peninsula and offers beautiful views of the town. Our two local wineries Sorenson Cellars* and FairWinds Winery* have tasting rooms. Port Townsend also has two micro-breweries. The Port Townsend Brewing Company* has a fabulous beer garden and the Water Street Brewing & Ale House* has a number of excellent award-winning beers on tap.
