Driving on Kansas Highway 96 just west of Hutchinson, you come upon a most unusual sight: zebras frolicking with camels, ostriches dancing in the brome, giraffes, kangaroos and too many other exotic critters to list! This most unique animal farm, its entertainment affiliate - Hedrick's Promotions, Inc. and Hedrick's Bed & Breakfast Inn - are owned and operated by Joe and Sondra Hedrick, both native Kansas ranchers. Joe's many years on the rodeo trail with various specialty acts involving exotic animals eventually evolved into exotic breeding as Hedrick Exotic Animal Farm, Inc. It was soon followed by Hedrick's Promotions, Inc. providing family entertainment with Camel Races, Ostrich Races, Pig Races, and Educational Petting Zoos. Later Hedrick's Bed & Breakfast Inn was opened to provide a unique retreat. The foundation of the operation remains the animal farm, where the majority of animals are "home grown" through the farm's breeding program. A full-time, trained staff insures that each animal receives individual care regarding nutrition requirements, housing needs, and human companionship. Hedrick's is licensed by the U.S.D.A. and has a veterinary service that provides 24 hour assistance to both farm and tour units. Hedrick's animals have starred in commercials, movies, Las Vegas shows, Radio City shows, and Christmas pageants all over North America! Hedrick's animals entertain in Camel Races, Ostrich Races, Pig Races, Educational Petting Zoos, Pony Rides and Camel Rides at hundreds of fairs and events each year. The central location of Hedrick's enables the touring exhibits and shows to be available coast to coast and border to border. Families, groups and singles can meet and interact with the animals when they stay at the Bed & Breakfast located on the farm in Nickerson, Kansas. Or folks can come to the farm for a tour, hay ride, birthday party, corporate retreat, etc.

True to the western heritage of Kansas, the Bed & Breakfast reflects the image of main street in the Old West, complete with an outdoor balcony which is accessible from each room. Viewing atrium, Kid's Corner, and family room are open to our guests. Hedrick's offers a relaxing, quiet country atmosphere, with the fun of safari-type rooms. Each room has color television, air conditioning, VCR, private bathroom and telephone. Included in the price of the room is a delicious country breakfast, after which there is a special guest tour of the farm. Guests can help bottle feed if they like. On the tour folks get to feed camels, cuddle kangaroos and be kissed by giraffe. Pony rides are offered after the tour. During March through October there are camel rides and an evening hayride.
