In 1708, Johannes Hardenbergh received over 2 million acres of land from Queen Anne for "gallantry in action" which later became known as the "Great Hardenbergh Patent".
The Hardenbergh House, built by Johannes's grandson in the mid 1800's was home to Hardenberghs until the mid 1950's. Originally built as a center-hall colonial, the home was "upgraded" to its present gabled Victorian style around the turn of the century.
