Welcome to the George Perley House - an elegant country inn located in Gray, Maine. Built circa 1830, the house sits on 12 acres of woods and trails. We combine simple country decor with all the amenities of modern living - the perfect balance between quiet relaxation and fun activites for you and your children. Conveniently located near Portland & Freeport, the inn provides easy access to the seashore as well as the lake and mountain region. Outdoor Activities Go horseback riding, cross country skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, or play tennis at the 2,500 acre Pineland Farms (5 minutes). Play a course of 18 hole golf or practice at the driving range at Spring Meadows (5 minutes). For downhill skiiing try Sunday River with 128 trails and 18 lifts (1 hour). In the summer months, enjoy a picnic or swim in the surf at Portland Headlight, the oldest lighthouse in Maine (45 minutes). If you prefer freshwater, try swimming, canoeing or boating at Sebago Lake, the second largest in the state (25 minutes). Pick your own apples at Thompson's Orchard (10 minutes). Shopping & Restaurants A perfect activity anytime of the year is shopping at the outlet stores of Freeport including the world famous L.L. Bean (15 minutes). Try the many cultural and culinary delights of Maine's largest city, Portland (25 minutes). Locally, Cole Farms has been serving delicious, home-cooked meals at reasonable prices for over 50 years (5 minutes). Colleges We are located near 3 of the best liberal arts colleges in the country: Bates College (25 minutes), Bowdoin College (25 minutes), and Colby College (1 hour). History Take a tour and visit the gift shop at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village. Founded in 1783, it is the only remaining active Shaker community in the world (15 minutes). Auctions Try your hand at an estate sale at the Cyr Auction Company (5 minutes). For Children The Maine Wildlife Park provides shelter to wild animals who have been orphaned or injured and can't return to the wild (10 minutes). There are over 30 ACA accredited camps located within a 30 mile radius of the George Perley House.
