Beautiful Dreamer is a Federal-design home complemented with antiques, cherry furniture, and a gorgeous baby grand piano. Travelers can stay in the Beautiful Dreamer Room, the perfect accommodation for special occasions, where you'll forget your worries in the double Jacuzzi. The Captains Room, equally romantic, offers a spectacular fireplace and a single Jacuzzi, while the Stephen Foster Room has a heart-shaped double whirlpool tub and a four-poster cherry bed. All of Beautiful Dreamers' guest rooms have central air conditioning, queen-sized beds, color television, and private baths. Before beginning your day, Beautiful Dreamer offers a hearty, homemade breakfast served by candlelight in the dining room. And on those cool, frosty mornings, breakfast is served by a cozy woodburning fireplace.
There are many attractions in and around Bardstown including My Old Kentucky Home State Park. Here, you can visit the mansion known as Federal Hill where Stephen Foster wrote the popular ballad, "My Old Kentucky Home," which is also Kentucky's state song. Federal Hill was the home of John Rowan, a cousin of Stephen Foster, so he revisited the home several times. Stephen Foster - The Musical pays tribute to Foster in an outdoor drama that includes more than 50 of his songs and is just a short walk from Beautiful Dreamer.
Also know as the "Bourbon Capital of the World," the area in and around Bardstown once reflected 22 operating distilleries with distilling records dating back to 1776. Only four remain open today and three of these -- Jim Beam, Heaven Hill and Maker's Mark -- offer tours. Other attractions not to miss are At Joseph's Cathedral, Civil War Museum, Spalding Hall, and antique and specialty shops, plus romantic carriage rides.
