You are cordially invited to enjoy the beauty and comfort of our historic Vermont home. Forty Putney Road is an elegant French Provincial estate overlooking the West River and The Hogle Wildlife Sanctuary, but just a short 3 block walk to downtown Brattleboro. The lawns and gardens are landscaped with stately specimen trees, including one of the largest Japanese Maples in the United States. You will feel at home and at ease, whether on vacation or business.
Forty Putney Road was built in 1930 for Dr. Charles Ripley, the director of the Brattleboro Retreat, a large, private mental hospital established in 1834. It remained a home for various Retreat directors until the early 1980's when it became a private residence. It has been a bed & breakfast since the early 1990's. The trees and gardens date from when the house was built.
