The Fairville Inn Bed and Breakfast is the most convenient lodging facility in the heart of the Brandywine Valley and is on the road between Longwood Gardens and Winterthur Museum, only minutes from the business district in Wilmington Delaware. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Inn was built in 1857 by Caleb Windle who later served as a bank director, school board director, and a Chester County Commissioner. The Inn has been home to members of many of southern Chester County early families, including Mendenhall, Pyle, Trimble, Sharpless and others. James Trimble was a relative of Daniel Defoe, author of Robinson Crusoe. His wife was sister to Ellwood Mendenhall, a prominent figure in the town of Mendenhall.
