Dr. Dodson House offers five-star hospitality and an in-town location just one house from the harbor and steps from popular Talbot Street with its interesting shops and fabulous restaurants. Museums and parks are also nearby. The inn was built in1799 by Samuel Harrison, and began life as a tavern and the town's first post office. History buffs will appreciate its original features, including doors, woodwork, fireplaces, and wavy glass. In 1872 Sarah Louisa Bruff doubled the size of the original brick structure and added a spectacular two story porch. The house remains one of the best preserved examples of federal period architecture in the historic district and is featured on both the St. Mary's Square Museum walking tour map and the Talbot County Historical Society's Frederick Douglass site map. In his autobiography, Mr. Douglass describes his visit to the house in 1877, where he and his former master reconciled their differences. Come enjoy the character of this beautiful antique home and enjoy life's little luxuries - you might just want to settle in to a chair on the porch and watch the world go by.
