Cornwall Orchards Bed & Breakfast is a comfortable 1783 Vermont farmhouse between the Green and Adirondack Mountains, situated on 14 acres just two miles from Middlebury College. The Middlebury region is steeped in Vermont beauty, including extensive farm and orchard country and the Green Mountains. There is superb hiking nearby, from easy to moderately difficult. The area is steeped in history from three American wars, including Fort Ticonderoga, Mount Independence and the Hubbarton Battlefield.
Fort Ticonderoga alone is worth a family trip, it is beautifully restored and is reached by a little auto ferry across Lake Champlain after a short drive through delightful farm and orchard country. There is golf three minutes from Cornwall Orchards at the eighteen hole Middlebury College Golf Course, which is open to the public.
The marvelous Shelburne Museum with restored early American houses, railroad cars, steamboat, Americana and a fine art collection, among other things, is close by. We offer a discount to the admission fee. There is excellent back road cycling from the house, nearby fishing, antiquing and plenty of culture. There are many excellent restaurants in nearby Middlebury and environs. Cross country skiing is close by at Middlebury College's Bread Loaf Ski Touring Center and at Blueberry Hill. Downhill skiing is at the Middlebury College Snowbowl (it's good) and at Sugarbush (forty-five minutes) and Mad River Glen (forty minutes).
