Gulfport, Mississippi

A short, four-block walk from the Gulf of Mexico and gorgeous white sand beaches, the Camille House is located in the small Southern town and port city of Gulfport, Mississippi, which was founded in 1887. The home offers the elegance and charm of the Victorian era and design, with all of today's amenities. Each themed room memorializes a different news-making hurricane from the Gulf Coast's history and has a unique character with a private bath and cable television. Choose from the Hurricane Camille Room, the Hurricane Elena Room, and the Hurricane Georges Room, and acquaint yourself with photos and memorabilia from each of these legendary storms. A cozy parlor offers visiting and reading. An European Continental breakfast is served daily between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. One of the fastest growing attractions in the South, the Mississippi Gulf Coast is packed with entertainment, nightlife, outdoor activities, and historic attractions. The Camille House is only minutes away from the 300-year-old shrimping town of Biloxi, which was named after the now-extinct local Biloxi Indian tribe. The flags of eight countries have flown over Biloxi since it was founded in 1699, each country's rule leaving its colorful mark on the food and ethnicity of the area. Enjoy Cajun jambalaya, French shrimp po-boy sandwiches, fresh local seafood, and Yugoslavian pusherattas. More recently, authentic Vietnamese cuisine has become available, prepared by skilled chefs from the area's Vietnamese community. Those interested in the arts can explore the quaint coastal town of Bay St. Louis, located 15 miles from the Camille House. New Orleans culture and entertainment, including jazz, Bourbon Street, and Mardi Gras festivities, is only an hour's drive away. The Camille House is a one-of-a-kind bed and breakfast that offers a glimpse into the history of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the savage hurricanes that have shaped the Coast and the people living here for centuries. Come to the Gulf Coast, stroll along the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and marvel at the strength of Mother Nature -- as she continues to give birth to the fury of hurricanes like Camille, Elena, and Georges.
