Built in 1775 by Abijah Waterman, Blue Skye Farm is now owned by an English/American couple, Jan and Peter Davidson, who have converted it to a small bed and breakfast inn. The owners live in an adjacent cottage leaving the entire house, (5 bedrooms, sitting room, dining room and large country kitchen) for their guests to enjoy. There are 100 acres of tracked woodland for hiking, cross country skiing, bird watching or just strolling and an abundance of wildlife (beaver, muskrat, deer, moose, coyote), birds and waterfowl. These, combined with the clarity of air and light, make Blue Skye Farm a water colorist’s dream and a perfect retreat between sightseeing trips. Three hours from Boston, l hour from Portland and Freeport (famous outlet shopping town) and 10 minutes off Route l Coastal Highway, Blue Skye Farm is on a peninsula, minutes from Friendship Point (home of the Friendship Sloop). Whale watching, schooner trips, Acadia National Park, nautical museums and the Farnsworth Museum of Art, dedicated to local icon Andrew Wyeth, are all on the doorstep and the fishermen down the road will keep the kitchen lobster pot full at a very affordable price.
