The Homestead Bed & Breakfast
3944 Bloomfield Road (Hwy 62 E)
Bardstown, Kentucky

The Homestead is located on Highway #62 E only four miles from Bardstown, an area that cherishes its history. During the Civil War, only three houses existed between Bardstown and Bloomfield. The Homestead was one of them. The Homestead is a restored log home and an Historic Kentucky Landmark. The massive log portion of the house was built in the late 1700s of huge hand-hewn yellow poplar (tulip poplar) logs which grace the interior as well. A house slave wing was later added as well as a Victorian wing which features decorative updating of that time such as faux marbling and wood graining. The Homestead is furnished with period antiques throughout and a grand buffalo head from Kentucky graces the living room fireplace mantle. The old family cemetery on the farm is also being restored. It dates back to the early 1800s. The stepping stone (the step up'n) to get into a buggy or onto a horse is still here. The old slave kitchen has been rescued from a falling down state and is now my working kitchen. The once dirt floor now is covered by old bricks from the L&N Railroad Station in Louisville. The servants pantry is still the pantry. The preservation of the kitchen is in memory of the forty slaves that used to work the plantation. Their names are on a plaque that is made from the handmade roof shingles that I'm sure were made by them. It is a true country kitchen. The whistle walk stills remains, and don't forget to ask about our friendly resident ghosts! In the morning, enjoy a hearty country breakfast with farm fresh eggs that you can help gather if you wish. With the addition of homemade fruit preserves, jams and jellies, this morning meal is a sure delight. Light supper accompanied by a nice bottle of wine from my neighbor's winery available upon arrival. For the renting, three rooms are available, from rustic to Victorian, with period bathrooms accompanying. Many feminine touches are apparent throughout The Homestead and the casual and friendly atmosphere will make you feel right at home. Log Guest Room A game room awaits you, just for fun, where you can sit at the old built-in bar or by the fireplace and listen to old jazz classics from days gone by. Or you can shop in the gift shop which offers antiques as well as the works of many artisan friends who are juried members in the Kentucky Craft
