Evidence of its age and history can be seen in the wide board flooring, wood usually reserved for the king during colonial times; huge open-hearth fireplaces, one with a bee-hive oven; hand-glazed wainscoting throughout the inn; and a secret passage connecting the upstairs and downstairs ---thought to be a hiding place for Tories during the Revolutionary War. While originally part of a larger farm tract, today two acres remain to surround Ashley Manor with graceful hedges, stately old trees and natural woods. A charming gazebo completes the aura of a former time, while a carefully sited tennis court blends gently into the surroundings. Common rooms are large and sunny in summer, cozy and warm in winter...and beautifully furnished with antiques, oriental rugs and graceful country furniture.
