John Shipman built this gracious Victorian home in 1887 as his personal residence. Its present owners have lovingly and extensively restored the house, updating with modern conveniences, while preserving the homes original architectural details. The interior features original wood paneling, stained glass windows, a player baby grand piano, art nouveau and authentic Victorian decoration and antique furnishings. Several working fireplaces feature hand carved wood mantels and large 4-6 foot mirrors. The exterior features a Victorian-style lattice porch, landscaped formal gardens with fountains, and patio area. The formal, brick lined yard has been the sight of numerous weddings and private parties. The home is extensively decorated for the holiday season, and has been part of "Christmas at the Smithsonian".
